Essential Oils for Wellness
It is of general knowledge that plants can support our health goals, especially when we consider prevention. Throughout history, humans have used plants essences to cleanse, purify, and protect themselves.
The chemical essences from plants are accessed by various processes:
- Inhalation of essential oils by fumigation, burning incense, perfume.
- Massage after dilution of essential oils or maceration of plants in oils.
- Other skin-friendly methods as in baths, lotions, balms.
Wine and honey are also used to extract essential substances from plants. Although excess heat damages some of the essences, cooking with plant extracts, like spices, still retains some of the plants essences for our good. Water extraction is another popular way to access plants essences. Hence, hydrosols and teas are become prevalent and are no less potent.
There is no denying of the effectiveness of plant compounds to our well-being. The compounds present themselves in the form of molecules that can interact with our body’s own molecules and alter the latter. A witness to the effectiveness of these compounds presents itself in the name of drugs. A cannabis or tobacco consumer can attest to the power of these compounds.
When we speak chemistry, we speak interactions. So, knowing your plants well is a prerequisite to using them well to support your body in managing your emotions, or to recover from emotional damage. Check out our vlog on YouTube for more about plant safety.
